As an Anthem summer intern, you will have the unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and growing industry while gaining valuable business experience and driving sustainable end-to-end process improvements. As part of the team, you will work with and learn from talented professionals in a variety of business units to gather data, formulate recommendations and launch projects that help us run our business more efficiently and effectively.

This program is tailored to your personal academic and professional goals and is designed to strengthen your understanding of the health care industry and prepare you for future opportunities through:
  • Experiential learning with hands-on process improvement projects focused on end-to-end improvements across the enterprise
  • Interaction directly with Senior Leaders through a variety of knowledge sharing and networking opportunities
  • Orchestrated 'immersion' experiences allowing you to develop deep insights into the many facets of healthcare

Examples of projects that past interns have contributed to include:
  • End-to-end process improvements of customer experience touch points
  • Artificial intelligence pilot to predict patient care needs
  • Pilot design for ID card address management
  • Claims operation improvement
  • Enhanced sales support model launch

  • To qualify for the program, you must currently be pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university in the following fields: Business Administration, Engineering Operations, Finance, Healthcare Management, Healthcare Administration, or Public Health
  • Student leadership experience (preferred)
  • Position may be based in our New York, NY, Indianapolis, IN, Mason, OH, Richmond, VA or Atlanta, GA offices.
Successful intern candidates should demonstrate a blend of talents and skills including:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Superb problem solving skills using logic and data
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Professional maturity
  • Process improvement skills (including data analysis, application of process centric methodologies/tools, etc.)
  • Project management skills (including time management, change management, template development, etc.)
  • Leadership skills (courage to voice professional opinions, ability to receive feedback and course-correct, bias for change)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (creating formulas, filtering, creating pivot tables, using VLookup) - required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint (create presentations with charts, images, and animation) - required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Visio (creating cross functional process diagrams, illustrations, and mind maps) - preferred

Your Questions, Answered

You have to be at least 18 years of age (unless part of an approved/sponsored program) and currently enrolled in an accredited US college or university. For actuarial students, sitting for or having at least one exam completed by the time your interview is an advantage.

We offer internships that are 3 months, 6 months and part-time during the school year. Our opportunities are based on business needs and student availability.

We are delighted to get to know you! Our team participates in various on-campus events throughout the year and from time to time hosts meetings in our offices. The fastest way to see where you stand in the application process is to log into our system to check your status.

Because internships are temporary positions, the only benefits offered at this time are access to our onsite fitness facilities, and the ability to contribute to a 401k. We do, however, offer opportunities to get connected, and be mentored through our various ARGs (Associate Resource Groups).
