Position Location:  This position is ideally located in our Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA, Indianapolis, IN or Morristown, NJ offices.  Other core Anthem locations may be considered.

Job Summary:

The Diversified Business Group (DBG) at Anthem is dedicated to providing innovative solutions and care delivery models to personalize and integrate care for those with complex and chronic conditions. The DBG Strategy Team at Anthem supports the DBG mission by focusing on enabling deliberate decisions based on customer and market signals to support profitable growth. Core functions of the DBG Strategy team include: market analysis to determine attractive areas for growth, partnering with existing business units to improve operating performance, evaluation of the strategic and financial rationale behind potential acquisitions, divestitures, investments and partnerships, providing recommendations to DBG leadership, managing due-diligence and the closing process, along with ensuring successful integration of acquisitions and execution of partnerships.

Candidate will be responsible for supporting and driving post-M&A integrations within the Strategy team of Anthem’s DBG business unit. Develop and drive growth-focused integration processes with key DBG/ANTM/external stakeholders, while concurrently managing DBG integration activity to ensure a top-notch integration function and alignment with the overall DBG + enterprise business strategy. Participate in pre-acquisition diligence, lead DBG integration planning and post-acquisition integration execution activities to achieve target synergies, budget and growth plans.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Leads the coordination of DBG integration team and resources.
  2. Drives integration projects and post-merger activities across multiple business functions including product specific areas of value creation along with related essential operating systems, shared services such as HR, non-product IT, Finance, Legal, Real Estate, Procurement, Marketing, Communications.
  3. Keeps the integration team on track, through support of an Integration Management Office (IMO), the coordination of timing and execution of key project deliverables with Value Capture and Organizational Talent and Culture teams, as well as cross-functional collaboration with all functional work stream leaders.
  4. Ensure organizational readiness by being attuned to both internal and external stakeholder needs.
  5. Finalizes and executes specific DBG synergies and revises forecast as needed.
  6. Ensures leadership, associate and org design HR plans are implemented.
  7. Develops strong relationships with all stakeholders to ensure widespread support for DBG integration initiatives.
  8. Provides counsel and coaching on best practices to DBG integration participants.
  9. Develops regular reporting mechanisms, monitors progress throughout, and measures quantitative and qualitative outcomes to ensure execution of integration plan to budget.
  10. Develops insights and delivers timely and effective integration reporting to DBG leaders and Operating Committee leaders.
  11. Identifies integration risks and issues and partners with business and functional leadership to resolve.
  12. Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports.


  • Requires BA/BS.
  • MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years related functional and project management experience.
  • Any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Prior experience leading or supporting an IMO and playing a role in a dedicated functional integration on multiple transactions preferred. 
  • Requires in depth understanding of integration challenges and best practices, the ability to influence key stakeholders, and experience with operations and systems.
  • Strong strategic thinking/planning, analytical, project management, and organizational skills required.
  • Self-starter with the ability to forecast and meet deadlines.
  • Accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate across the organization (upstream and downstream).
  • Management/leadership experience.
  • Healthcare and managed care experience.
