Data Catalog/Metadata Analyst Job Description


The Data Catalog/Metadata Analyst is responsible for the Business and Technical Metadata content and quality of the Anthem data cataloging software, Informatica AXON 5.3 and Enterprise Data Catalog 10.2.2 (EDC).  The Data Catalog Team works with project resources to gather, format, quality check and setup automated loads of Metadata into EDC.  This data includes physical tables, columns, business terms, and mapping transformations.  AXON is used by the business to add business glossary terms, business workflows and data quality rules.

  • Work with project resources to gather, format, quality check and load Metadata
  • Prepare monthly metadata metrics
  • Work with project teams to capture metadata from Big Data, mainframe and mid-range databases (i.e. Teradata, Oracle, MS SQL etc…) resources
  • Configure resource scanning parameters to capture metadata
  • Perform monthly updates to Critical Systems
  • Monitor and perform Metadata scanning processes
  • Coordinate Metadata changes with impacted applications
  • Develop and maintain Metadata standards, procedures and templates
  • Construct and maintain training material and perform end user training
  • Develop UAT testing documentation
  • Perform AXON and EDC demonstrations and training to UAT testers and users
  • Prepare and execute test cases for Metadata components and version upgrades
  • Manage testing process and defect management for new Metadata components/upgrades
  • Create mappings and data transformation that are displayed in EDC

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving critical thinking skills.
  • Business data analysis

  • EDC and AXON resource management
  • EDC Data Object creation and linkage
  • Requires BA/BS in information systems or related field; 6 or more year’s related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Able to work in teams and collaborate with others to clarify requirements.
  • Strong co-ordination and business communication skills to handle complex business situations.
  • Good working knowledge of Teradata, SQL, SQL programming, and relational database concepts.
  • Able to work with cloud computing environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Word
